It’s been busy here at the office, but the flowers are in bloom and the sun is shining brighter. Since the last update, Mocha Club has launched a new blog, attended the Killer Tribes conference, released the new Purpose Project video, began our HOTmonth series, AND began planning for some really exciting things to come this fall!
Oh, and we can’t forget the newest addition to the Mocha Club team—Fallon! She’s working the Front of House position, and has been such a delight to have around the office. (She also shares the interns’ love of the newest Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors album!)
Last week, the fashionABLE and Mocha Club teams headed to Las Paletas for some popsicles and Friday Funday excitement!
Our time here at Mocha Club is winding down, and summer is quickly approaching. I speak for all the interns when I say that we are so thankful for the opportunity to spend our days here with Mocha Club/fashionABLE. We aren’t done yet, though! We have a few more projects up our sleeves, so stay tuned!
It’s been a month since the Mocha Club and fashionABLE teams opened their doors for my fellow interns and I. And I’m sure you’re wondering: what have we been up to?
Chelsi and Aimee have been hard at work preparing for the new spring line. Their days have been spent pressing, folding, and tagging. But we are all so excited for the upcoming launch!
As for Alyssa and I, we have been working on some ventures in the media realm—you should be seeing some changes and new projects soon!
Stay tuned for more updates and photos, coming soon!
“But this is what I’m finding, in glimpses and flashes: this is it. This is it, in the best possible way. That thing I’m waiting for, that adventure, that movie-score-worthy experience unfolding gracefully. This is it.” –Shauna Niequist
A week and a half ago, the four newest members of the Mocha Club and fashionABLE team arrived at the office, excited and enthusiastic about what these next few months had in store. We were prepared to be challenged and to learn, but were most surprised by what we didn’t expect: the caring and supportive community that is fashionABLE and Mocha Club.
Chelsi and Aimee (fashionABLE interns) hard at work!
In the past week and a half, the intern team has done everything from creating spreadsheets, to entering and calling members, to brainstorming new ideas, and of course—folding and tagging scarves. Along the way we have also begun to form friendships and find our place within this team. It’s been, and will continue to be, an exciting journey.
I believe in these organizations, I believe in what they are doing around the world, and I believe in each individual who is a part of this team—whether in the office, or across the country through their monthly membership and purchases. And speaking for the entire intern team: THANK YOU. For everything you do, for making this opportunity possible, and for allowing us to step into these roles for a few short months.
This is it. And we are ready.
Until next time,
Guess what we’ve been doing this week?! Christmas shenanigans!!! The photo above is a little sneak peak of some stuff we’ve been working on, but I won’t reveal exactly what it is quite yet. =)
Everyone’s schedules have been completely up in the air for the last few days, I myself wasn’t in office every day as usual, but next week should be slightly more regular in the scheduling department.
Orders for scarves have been wacko awesome - everything in our stock room is sold and on its way out! What a blessing to be completely sold out!!! It’s stressful with the new orders we’ve been getting in because we have to wait until we get a new shipment of scarves, but we’ll get there. If you are one of the people who has ordered something and we haven’t contacted you about it yet, I’m sorry for the delay. We’ll be in touch with you on when you can expect to receive your FashionABLE scarf. =)
There isn’t too much news I can talk about on here since we like to keep our Christmasy things secret-y, haha. Hopefully I’ll have more to talk about on the Mocha front next week, like updates on concerts and everything. Until then, have a wonderful weekend everyone! =)
This week I am particularly thankful for the help we’ve had from volunteers. We have had a lot of scarves that needed to be added to the stock shelves and that meant overloaded gobs of time tagging, folding, pressing, etc. So hooray to all of the volunteers that made those tasks a heck of a lot better by lightening the load!
I’m also thankful for the new binder we have to make the order process so much easier! Now all of our order receipts are in one place and it’s such a relief being able to sort through them this way. With the papers and such all in order, we’ve finally gotten into the swing of things by creating multiple assembly lines for every task, and I’m blown away with how efficient we’ve been these past few days! Order are being processed, checked, packaged, and shipped faster than ever! Yay!
We have a lot of work coming up for Christmas, so next week I’ll give an update on all of that. For, now, I’m off to do more tagging! Yikes!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! Surprisingly, there isn’t much going on today!! Weird, right?! But also a lovely break from the ordinary as we get ready for our holiday time off.
Miss Sarah is working on scarves this afternoon, Macayla is making phone calls to our customers, and in addition to a few other little tasks on my plate I will be joining her later to help out with those calls. It should be a pretty laid back day but very important to get these things done before the end of the break since we hit the ground running on Monday! Remember, this upcoming Monday is CYBER MONDAY! We’ve got free shipment offers and store credit amounts awarded to our previous customers, so don’t forget to get in on the amazing deals! With every purchase of a scarf you will be helping a woman in Africa create a sustainable business for herself and her family, a worthy cause for taking advantage of a sale day! =)
I’m off to finish up some assignments, but I hope everyone reading this has a blessed Thanksgiving and enjoys time with spent with family and friends. Thank you, Lord for all of your gifts!
scarves, scarves, SCARVES!! They’re everywhere!!! (Haha, not that that’s anything new!) Welcome to the underbelly of the beast! Not really, but this is where some serious scarf rehab is taken care of by our dear friend Sarah. When we get our shipments from Ethiopia we like to make them all nice, and clean, and shiny, and new for you after they’ve made a long trip across the globe! Sarah is responsible for spiffing up the beautifully hand-woven material so that it is in perfect condition and ready for purchase. Thank you Sarah!!!
Some of these well taken care of scarves will be sold at the Creative Artists Agency shopping event downtown today, where our fellow intern Ashley along with Marisa Pardo will be talking about FashionABLE. Go check them out if you get a chance! The event is called The Giving Suite, and will be held at the CAA offices in Nashville until 2:00 p.m.
Well that’s pretty much it for today, hope ya’ll have a WONDERFUL day!!!!!! Until next week, see ya!! =)
We’re looking forward to stocking up our scarf inventory HARDCORE now that we’ve had some shipments come in that we’ve been waiting for. They were delayed with the coming of Hurricane Sandy. Our prayers go out to all those who were affected by this terrible storm, it’s been heavy on our of our hearts lately.
Mocha Club occurrences haven’t changed too much since our last update. Chonda Pierce is still on tour and now so is Matt Wertz. Mostly we interns have been working on the FashionABLE side of things since we’ve had so many orders to get through.
More updates to come, God Bless!!!
Hi friends! This past week has been CRAZY! We’ve had a massive number of orders come in for scarves and for the last two days it’s been “all hands on deck!!” as Barrett would announce each morning for folding, tagging, and packaging. So I thought I would take the opportunity to acknowledge the stress and bring in some positive thinking.
The quote in the title of this post was said by Mohandas K. Gandhi. (I found out his first name is not actually Mahatma and my mind was blown.) A wise dude that Gandhi. Here at the office while we’ve been running around fulfilling orders, trying to get our priority lists straight while other obligations came up in the middle of it all (for example, we also needed to put together a new road kit for the Chonda tour), I think we all kind of forgot to take a moment to realize that the priorities we have at work are not the only ones in our lives.
When things get hectic, it’s easy to feel like work is everything important, and it’s difficult to reset your mind into believing it’s not, even if you’re totally aware that you’re stressing about it too much. I stumbled across another quote today that put it perfectly: ”Sometimes it seems your ever-increasing list of things to do can leave you feeling totally undone” (Susan Mitchell and Catherine Christie). This is so true for me, and it takes time and prayer to get that to-do list out of my head and put God back in first place where He belongs. It’s only when I manage to do this that the rest of my priorities fall into place and I’ll able to tackle that to-do list with peace of mind.
So I encourage you if you are having a busy, busy week like we are here at Mocha Club, to take some time with God and hit that restart button in your brain. And remember, ”There must be quite a few things that a hot bath won’t cure, but I don’t know many of them” (Sylvia Plath).
We’ve got a lot going on around the Mocha Club offices this month, the most time consuming of which so far has been preparation for the Influence blog conference this weekend. A few members of our team are on their way to talk to some really awesome bloggers about how they can be a part of what we call “The Purpose Project.” Bloggers interested in participating will set goals for themselves to achieve in a set amount of time, raising money for specific Mocha projects as they work on accomplishing those goals! The concept is a little confusing at first, but I promise I’ll feed you some more information as it comes our way. =) For now, here’s what our work space looks like while we’re getting ready for the conference:
And Miss Ellie has been working ever so diligently on the materials for campus display tables. It’s been quite difficult to resist those Reese’s pumpkins…
And that about sums up our week! =) I’ll be back soon with more info about the Influence conference and how it went! Personally, I’m so excited to hear about how many bloggers decide to go for it!
